How to Read a Weighbridge Slip and Transit Pass

Understand gross, tare and net weight, verify the tonnage you paid for, and check the royalty and e-transit papers that should arrive with every load.

Why the paperwork matters

Aggregate is sold by weight, and weight is easy to dispute after the fact if nobody wrote it down. A weighbridge slip is the objective record of how much material was on the truck, and the transit paperwork is proof that the material was extracted and moved through the proper channels. Together they let you verify you got what you paid for and keep your project on the right side of the rules. With every load we supply, you should receive a GST invoice, a weighbridge slip and the relevant e-transit / transit papers.

Gross, tare and net: the three numbers

The heart of any weighbridge slip is three weights. Understanding them is the whole skill:

TermWhat it is
Gross weightThe full truck with the material loaded — vehicle plus cargo.
Tare weightThe empty truck on its own, with no material.
Net weightThe material you actually bought: gross minus tare.

The arithmetic is simply Net = Gross − Tare. The net weight is the figure that should match your invoice quantity. If the slip shows only a gross figure with no tare, ask for both — you cannot verify the delivered tonnage without them.

How to verify the tonnage you paid for

  • Check the net against the invoice. The net weight on the slip should equal the quantity billed on the GST invoice for that load.
  • Look at the date and time. The weighing should be recent and consistent with the delivery, not an old slip reused.
  • Match the vehicle number. The truck registration on the slip should be the truck at your gate.
  • Note the weighbridge identity. A proper slip names the weighbridge and usually carries a serial or ticket number.
  • Re-weigh if in doubt. For large or repeat orders, a spot re-weigh at an independent weighbridge is a fair check and reputable suppliers will not object.

Remember that loads are supplied in full tipper quantities, typically a 10-wheeler carrying a load in the region of a standard tipper capacity. Small variations between loads are normal; a consistent shortfall across many loads is not.

The transit pass and royalty papers

Aggregate is a minor mineral, and moving it legally requires that the royalty and transit obligations at the source are met. In Andhra Pradesh, where our crusher works operates, this involves seigniorage / royalty along with the district mineral and related levies, and an e-transit pass or transit document that accompanies the load on its journey. When we supply material from AP into Tamil Nadu, the applicable royalty components are itemised at actuals on your documentation rather than hidden in the rate, so you can see exactly what was paid. The transit pass typically identifies the material, the quantity, the source and the destination, and links back to the vehicle carrying it.

What to check on the transit paperwork

  • Material and quantity on the transit pass are consistent with the weighbridge net and the invoice.
  • Source and destination make sense for your delivery.
  • Vehicle number matches the weighbridge slip and the truck at site.
  • The pass is valid for the trip — transit documents are tied to a movement, not reused indefinitely.

A note on GST

Your invoice will show GST under HSN 2517 for aggregate. For a supply from Andhra Pradesh into Tamil Nadu this is an inter-state supply, so the tax appears as IGST rather than CGST plus SGST. Keep the invoice with the weighbridge slip and transit pass as a matched set for your records and for any input-credit claim.

Keep the set together

The three documents reinforce each other: the invoice says what you were charged, the weighbridge slip proves the weight, and the transit pass shows the material moved legally. Filed together per load, they make reconciliation and audits straightforward. If any document is missing or the numbers do not agree, raise it before you unload. Quick answers

What are gross, tare and net weight on a weighbridge slip?

Gross is the loaded truck, tare is the empty truck, and net is the material you bought. Net equals gross minus tare, and the net weight is what should match your invoice quantity.

How do I verify I received the tonnage I paid for?

Check that the net weight on the slip matches the invoice, confirm the date, time and vehicle number, note the weighbridge identity and ticket number, and re-weigh at an independent weighbridge if you have doubts.

What is a transit pass and why does it come with the load?

Aggregate is a minor mineral, so moving it legally requires that royalty and transit obligations at the source are met. The e-transit pass accompanies the load, identifying the material, quantity, source, destination and vehicle.

Why does my invoice show IGST instead of CGST and SGST?

A supply from Andhra Pradesh into Tamil Nadu is an inter-state supply, so GST on the aggregate (HSN 2517) appears as IGST. Keep the invoice, weighbridge slip and transit pass together as a matched set.
