Hollow Concrete Blocks: 4, 6 and 8 Inch Price per Block
Hollow concrete blocks cost ₹43.85 per block for 6 inch, ₹31.85 per block for 4 inch and ₹47.85 per block for 8 inch (16 x 8 inch face), before GST and delivery. They come from block factories in Gummidipoondi SIPCOT and are stocked at all six yards. A 100 sq ft wall takes about 108 blocks (typical).

Hollow block sizes, weights and price
Check the length before comparing prices: some '6 inch' blocks on the market are 300 mm long, not 400 mm, so you need a third more of them.

Verdict: hollow blocks for infill walls in an RCC frame, where a lighter wall helps; solid blocks for load-bearing walls, compound walls holding back soil, and anything below plinth.
Next question: Which thickness for which wall? 4 inch for partitions, 6 inch for most outer infill walls, 8 inch where the designer wants a thicker wall. More
What a hollow concrete block is
A hollow block is a machine-pressed concrete masonry unit with two or three through-cavities, made from cement, stone chips, crusher dust and sand. Chennai names the size by thickness: 4, 6 or 8 inch on a 16 x 8 inch face.
IS 2185 (Part 1) is the standard for hollow and solid concrete blocks; it sets nominal sizes, tolerances and strength grades. Block makers use the same 6 mm chips and crusher dust we sell from our crusher.
Next question: Hollow or solid for my wall? See the comparison table above. More
Which thickness for which wall
4 inch: internal partitions, toilet and shaft walls (typical).
6 inch: the usual infill for outer walls of RCC-framed houses (typical).
8 inch: outer walls where the designer wants a thicker wall, and tall compound walls.
Below plinth or for load-bearing walls, use solid blocks or what the engineer specifies.
Next question: How do I check the blocks on delivery? Count, measure, scratch and look for cracks: five steps below. More
Checks when the blocks arrive
Count against the invoice: count the blocks in one layer, multiply by the layers and compare before unloading.
Measure five blocks at random: length, height and thickness should match the size ordered within a few millimetres.
Scratch a face with a key: a well-cured block shows a light line; a face that turns to powder means too little cement or curing.
Reject blocks with a crack through a web or a broken face shell.
Ask how many days the batch was cured; green blocks shrink in the wall and crack the plaster.
Next question: What if some blocks are broken? Set them aside, photograph them with the invoice and tell us before the lorry leaves. More
Strength grade and test report
IS 2185 (Part 1) grades blocks by minimum average compressive strength at 28 days, in N/mm². If your engineer has named a grade, ask for the factory's test result for the batch with the quote.
Next question: Does strength change the price? It can; the price rows here are for standard blocks, and a specified grade is quoted on request. More
Storing blocks on site
Unload by hand; tipping blocks off a lorry breaks face shells.
Stack on level ground, no higher than about 1.5 m, close to where the mason works.
Unlike clay bricks, do not soak concrete blocks before laying; a soaked block shrinks as it dries and cracks the plaster.
Cover the stack in the monsoon and let rain-wet blocks dry before use.
Next question: Can blocks stay outside in the rain? For a short while, yes; let them dry before laying. More
Mistakes to avoid with hollow blocks
Using hollow blocks below plinth or for load-bearing walls without the engineer's approval.
Soaking blocks like bricks before laying.
Cutting blocks with a hammer instead of a cutter; broken halves waste more than they save.
Comparing prices without checking the length (300 mm or 400 mm).
Next question: Would solid blocks suit my wall better? For load-bearing and below-plinth work, yes. More
Hollow Concrete Blocks: delivered price by area
Delivered price per block = yard price + freight on the block's weight from the nearest yard or the Gummidipoondi SIPCOT factories, assuming a full lorry; before GST.
Send the size, the count (or wall area) and your site location: quote form, call or WhatsApp.
We confirm the price per block, the nearest yard and the delivered price per lorry load.
Count and check the blocks before the lorry leaves; unload by hand.
Yards & sources
Stock yards and sources
Hollow Concrete Blocks are held at all six stock yards and come direct from the factories at Gummidipoondi SIPCOT. Your load leaves from the one nearest your site.
About 108 blocks of the standard 16 x 8 inch (400 x 200 mm) face with 10 mm joints, or about 113 with 5% for breakage. The thickness (4, 6 or 8 inch) changes the weight and the price, not the count.
How many 6 inch blocks are in a pack?
Blocks are not packed; they are counted per piece and delivered stacked on a lorry. By weight, a 6-wheeler takes about 550 six-inch hollow blocks and a 10-wheeler about 1,100 (typical), so we quote per block and per load.
What are the disadvantages of hollow blocks?
They carry less load than solid blocks, need care when fixing nails or wall plugs at the cavities, and use more plaster where a cavity is cut open. They suit infill walls in an RCC frame, not foundations or load-bearing walls.
What is the difference between hollow and solid?
A hollow block has through-cavities that cut its weight by roughly a quarter to two-fifths; a solid block is dense all through. Solid blocks are stronger and suit load-bearing and below-plinth work; hollow blocks are lighter and quicker for infill walls.
Which block is best for house construction?
In an RCC-framed house, 6-inch blocks for outer walls and 4-inch for partitions are the usual choice (typical). Houses without a frame, with load-bearing walls, need solid blocks or bricks as designed. Compare with our solid block prices before deciding.
