Typical thickness and mix by surface

Internal walls: 12 mm, 1:5 or 1:6.
External walls: 18–20 mm in two coats, 1:4.
Ceilings: about 6 mm, 1:3 or 1:4.
Rough brick or uneven block walls: expect 15 mm or more in places; budget with the 15 mm row.

Plaster sand for a whole house

A two-storey house with 9-inch outer and 4.5-inch inner walls has roughly 4.5–5 sq ft of plastered surface per sq ft of built-up area, counting both faces of the walls and the ceilings. At 12 mm in 1:5 that is about 9 MT of P-Sand per 1,000 sq ft.
